GEB Torrefied Maize

Torrefied Maize is created using maize grits that are torrefied at high temperatures to gelatinize the Maize. Torrefied Maize sweetens and lightens the wort.

Maize that has been micronized at high temperatures forms Flaked Torrefied Maize by bursting open its starches and thus gelatinizing it. This ingredient lightens wort and imparts a distinctive cornflake-like sweetness to beer. Distillers can even use Maize to create bourbon-style whiskey without pre-cooking. Our Maize is guaranteed free from genetically modified organisms (GMO).

Using pre-cooked, non-malted cereals offers brewers an excellent way to differentiate their products. The flaked form allows direct addition to the mash without milling. In small amounts, it contributes a mild and neutral flavour, while higher percentages introduce a moderate level of sweetness. English bitters may incorporate low rates of this ingredient, but it is predominantly found in American lager styles.
