Brewing with extract is also called “partial mash” brewing, and it makes the homebrew process a lot easier. Instead of crushing grain and then mashing in, malt extract is used along with steeping grains to create your beer. 

This saves a lot of tidying up, and it’s also a great way to move into brewing more difficult or intricate recipes.
