GEB Flaked Torrefied Barley
Flaked Torrefied Barley is made from barley grains cooked at high temperatures, resulting in the gelatinization of the starchy endosperm. When added to beer, it helps with head retention and adds body to the finished product. It has a slightly stronger flavour than its wheat counterpart.
Flaked Torrefied Barley, as a pre-cooked, non-malted cereal, offers brewers a unique opportunity for product differentiation. Its flaked form allows direct addition to the mash without milling, simplifying the brewing process. Not only does it produce a distinct grainy taste, but it also significantly enhances head retention, creaminess, and body in the beer. With the potential to make up to 20% of the grist, it's a versatile ingredient that can be used creatively in various beer styles, although it's primarily suited for stout recipes.
TASTING NOTES: Slightly more harsh flavour/bite than Torrefied Wheat
BEER STYLES: All styles. It is suited to stouts for extra bite.
SHELF LIFE: 6 months in dry & pest free conditions
