Isopropanol, or isopropyl alcohol, is a clear, colourless liquid with an odour that resembles acetone. It is a commercially available product mainly found as a 70% solution in rubbing alcohol and hand sanitisers. It is commonly used as a solvent, cleaning solution, or antiseptic.

Uses

• Use as a final contact spray on equipment and surfices.
• It can be used as rubbing alcohol antiseptic and is easily mixed with water

Synonyms: Rubbing alcohol, Propan-2-OL (IUPAC name), isopropyl alcohol, IPA, propyl alcohol, sec-propyl alcohol, s-propanol, iPrOH,  i-PrOH, IpOH, dimethyl carbinol, and isopropanol. (IUPAC considers  isopropanol incorrect because the hydrocarbon isopropane does not  exist.)
