Microbrewery Cleaning
Keeping your microbrewery clean and sanitised is a daily job, and without a proper sanitation schedule or process in place, problems can arise very quickly. A clean microbrewery avoids cross-contamination and infection, and gives you a much higher rate of success when brewing your beer.
Cleaning equipment takes time, and there are important differences between the types of chemicals you can use depending on the materials your equipment is made from.
One of the most popular and effective cleaning chemicals available to brewers is caustic soda, because it is extremely effective at breaking down the different organic compounds left as residue on brewing equipment after a brewing cycle.
In hard water areas, using caustic soda alone can leave unwanted calcium deposits on equipment. In these areas, it’s useful to choose chemical cleaners with additional chemicals such as Sodium Gluconate, EDTA or Calgon in them to help keep the carbonate salts locked inside the solution.
Some cleaning products are rinse-free, and some require a full rinse in order to complete the cleaning process. Acid-based cleaning solutions don’t require rinsing, whereas caustic cleaners do.
